For self-published authors, the blurb is one of the most important marketing tools you have. A blurb is a brief description of your book that appears on the back cover, or on the online sales page. A well-crafted blurb can make the difference between a potential reader scrolling past your book, and clicking the “buy” button.

The first sentence of your blurb is critical. You need to capture the reader's attention and make them want to keep reading. Start with a hook that is interesting, unique, and compelling. Ask a question, make a statement, or create a sense of intrigue. For example: "What if you woke up one day and discovered you could see the future?" or "In a world where magic is forbidden, one girl discovers she has the power to change everything."
